As a songwriter your going to need a good law firm a.k.a lawyer to handle your business in the music industry. As a songwriter you want to be credited for your work , but some of these devils in the business will try to bullshit so you don’t get credited for your work. A songwriter is suppose to be listed in the credits as the writer to the song. In most cases, you’ll see your name in the credits, meaning you got your points or percentage for writing the song, and a good law firm can help make sure you get your points on an album.
Many writers who work on certain projects will run into problems with labels who don’t want to pay or give credit. When you run into problems you will need a good lawyer to represent you to get your money for you. A crook is a crook no matter how you flip’em, and you need to have all your ducks in a row so you can take charge in getting the money you deserve. Don’t write any song and never do a split sheet. A split sheet is a listing of who wrote what, and the percentage that each person gets for writing or producing the song.

Powerful black women in the music business is not a new term. But, what is new is the amount of successful women in the music business. Many folks don’t know who Sylvia Rhone is, or even have a clue of what her role is. She is responsible for some of the biggest names in music one of them being Little Wayne and Cash Money Records. When it comes to the music business, there are many women inside the business you never hear about, but are powerful in their own right.
Here are some of the powerful black women behind the music ;
Songwriter Makeba Riddick talks about how she was able to break into the music business as a songwriter. She like many other songwriters was shopping her demo, and gave it to several people before running into Puffy Daddy or P-Diddy. Diddy fail in love wit the songs, and put her to work on some of the biggest names in the business like Mary J. Blidge and others.
She spoke about how “she like anything else had her ups and downs, and just kept going shopping her demo to labels.” Many times the labels wouldn’t feel good about a song, and maybe didn’t think she was a great talent for a songwriter. She never stop going and finally got her break wit Puffy.
I was reading an article about how Chris Lighty of Violator Management will be listening to demos. Chris has managed some of the biggest names in the business from Busty Rhymes, 50cent, LL Cool J and a slew of other artist. Violator is now listening to music. A company by the name of please listen to my demo.com is his baby, and through this company Chris will be giving artist good feed back on artist demo’s.
The question I have, is this just another hussel to make a few dollars off of a blood thirsty artist who want into the industry ? Anyone who has been in the business knows that it’s about relationships, and just getting your music listen to will not guarantee that you will get signed. I have seen it some many times before where a company puts out a memo that they are taking music for a small fee and people come running.
I can remember when Russel Simmons came to town, and someone on the radio mention that he would be taking music submissions. People from all over showed up, and paid fifty dollars to put there music in the box, and hope that Russel would listen to the music. Well, you know the story he never heard any of that shit! Folks need to use their head, and realize that pimping is real. The music industry is built on relationships.
So the question I got is do you think scams are being run when companies say we will listen to your demo for dollars?
There is a lot of money in being a ghost writer for artist. Many artist that you here on the radio didn’t write there own material they had a ghostwriter do it. Ghostwriters usually don’t get the credit for writing the material that you may here on the radio. Many popular artist get the credit for writing but that’s okay cause you will get the check . Ghostwriting can be very lucrative business if you know how to use it to your advantage and get the royalties from your hard work.
Many of the Atlanta‘s pop stars that we hear on the radio don’t write there own material. Many of the songs they sing was written by a Ghost Writer. Creating material is a problem for some artist, so record companies hirer Ghostwriter to write the song for some artist who may not be talented songwriters. Ghostwriting can be a very lucrative profession if you can get in the door to a write songs for some of these name brand artist.
A ghostwriter is a professional writer who is paid to write books, articles, stories, reports, or other texts that are officially credited to another person. Celebrities, executives, and political leaders often hire ghostwriters to draft or edit … magazine articles, or other written material. In music, ghostwriters are used in film score composition, as well as for writing songs and lyrics for popular music genres. Act soon and become a GHOSTWRITER… …

Becoming a great song writer happens one song at a time . That is why Jill Scott is when of the Soul Communities best lyrics. When you look at great song writers like Jill Scott, 50cent, Al Green, Mavin Gaye and so on you realize that their body of work was built one song at a time. Many artist today don’t concentrate on building a body of work that will last forever. Great songwriters take into account the social and global issues of the world and put that into their body of work.
I know what your thinking record companies want what they want when they want it, and some time deadlines over shadow the art. Well, we don’t want to upset the record companies so time management and planning to work ahead of schedule is important. You should try to have a catalog of songs in the vault ready to pick from to keep the executives happy. So, you got to keep recording even when you don’t to in order to continue making great music.
been making his come back in the music industry. He has signed several new artist even a few in the Atlanta area. Master P’s No Limit Records was a power house back in the 90’s but had a few set backs, and fell off for a while. Master P, also known as Percy Miller moved his brand into other areas such as film and Television. His son Romeo also had several hit records during his stint in the music industry.
No Limit Records has produced several hot tracks with artist like Rick Ross, Future, Yo Gotti ,East Wood, and many more. I think Master P will bring the music back to their knees.

I have been listening to a lot of Rick Ross and have found him to be a very consistent writer. 95% of his songs I like and growing to love his work. In a world where hip hop cats are so inconsistent, and caught up in the immediate gratification of getting money Rick has proven to be consistent. His latest creation 2pac back has folks young and old talking about his talent. I think Ricky is proving to be one dude you can count on to deliver a hit.
